My 14th dance was inspired by the magical world of Aladdin and let me tell you – it was such a fun and unforgettable experience to record! This dance was packed with creativity, laughter, and a whole lot of feathers.
We recorded the dance in the studio, using green screen effects to enhance the background and bring the scenes to life. The first scene was the belly dancing sequence, where my friends and niece joined me as backup belly dancers. Trying not to laugh during the routine was almost as challenging as the dance itself!
The second scene featured "A Whole New World," with just me and my dance instructor. This part was more intimate and elegant, but the third scene quickly shifted the tone to something more playful – the iconic flying carpet moment. One of my favorite behind-the-scenes memories was when I didn't realize the camera was rolling. That unscripted, natural moment captured the magic far better than the close-up of me singing, where nerves definitely crept in.
I brought in most of the decor for the shoot – from draping and rugs to pillows, tray of grapes, and the flying carpet itself. We built the carpet on wheels, adding cushions underneath to make the flying effect look as natural as possible.
One of the funniest parts was the "chicken feather" moment. We used a leaf blower and had someone gradually release feathers to mimic flying close to chickens. The effect was hilarious, but the aftermath was even better – the studio was absolutely filled with feathers. A week later, we were still finding them!
Overall, this dance was not only a great performance, but a fantastic memory filled with joy, laughter, and a little bit of magic. It was an experience I'll cherish and one that continues to bring smiles every time I think about it.
