Unicorn and Fairy Bedtime Story Dance
For my 19th dance, I wanted to do something whimsical and playful, so I created the theme of a Unicorn and Fairy Bedtime Story. This dance took me back to the joys of childhood and the boundless imagination we all had as kids. It was a perfect blend of nostalgia, storytelling, and pure fun.
The story began with a little girl (played by me) who adored playing with her Barbies and Ken dolls. She had two particular Ken dolls that she dressed up—one as a unicorn and the other as a fairy. After a day of make-believe adventures, her mother told her it was time for bed. Reluctantly, the little girl complied, carefully placing her magical Ken dolls into the toy closet.
But as the night unfolded, the magical twist began. Was it a dream? Or was it reality? The little girl heard music and saw colorful lights emanating from the closet. Unable to resist, she tiptoed over to investigate. To her amazement, the two Ken dolls—now life-sized and dressed as a unicorn and a fairy—came to life! That’s when the dance truly began.
We danced to the lively and iconic song, "I’m So Excited" by The Pointer Sisters. The choreography was lighthearted and full of theatrical moments, capturing the magic of childhood fantasies. My instructors played the roles of the unicorn and fairy, and their costumes were hilariously over-the-top. Seeing them
in glittery wings and a unicorn outfit had the audience roaring with laughter. Adding to the magic, I created the costumes for the toy Ken dolls as well as the closet door prop. Designing and crafting these elements allowed me to bring my vision to life and make the performance even more immersive. What made this dance so special was the way it connected with the audience. The concept was relatable and heartwarming, reminding everyone of the days when a toy
closet could hold endless adventures. The playful storyline, combined with the energetic music and costumes, created a performance that was as theatrical as it was entertaining. The audience loved every second of it, laughing and cheering throughout.
This dance stands out as one of my
most playful and imaginative routines to date. It brought back memories of carefree days, playing with dolls, and believing in magic. It was a joy to perform and an even greater joy to see how much happiness it brought to those watching. I’ll treasure this performance as a reminder of the fun and creativity that dance can bring to life.
